Stroke/Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)

Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiologists form an integral part of the multidisciplinary team for post stroke management.   Using the principles of neuroplasticity, the optimal rehabilitation program helps you work towards improving your ability to complete the activities that matter to you the most.

This may include improving your walking, transfers, balance or upper limb function.  At Breaking Boundaries, we will work with you on what is important to you. We use the principles of neuroplasticity to help guide you through your rehabilitation.

Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology services for stroke/CVA  include:

  • Improving functional tasks such as sitting, standing, walking and running with strength and functional training.
  • Improving vestibular functioning.
  • Contracture prevention and management.
  • Cardiovascular fitness training to boost recovery and general health. It is recommended that you get ‘huffy and puffy’ to assist in rehabilitation, and we have adaptive exercise therapy options to ensure that you are following the best evidence base and are still able to exercise and enjoy it.
  • Fatigue management and pacing strategies to maximise quality of life.
  • Incorporating cognitive and brain training tasks into therapy to train brain networks.
  • Prescription of mobility/walking aids
