About Us
Breaking Boundaries is a place where individuals and athletes of all capabilities train to reach their goals.
Based in Newcastle, New South Wales, our adaptive gym facility has the equipment, the space and the personnel to help achieve your goals. Our systematic and planned treatment regimes can help to improve not only your physical function but your overall health both mentally and physically.
We love out of chair therapy to challenge your stability and get those muscles firing.
Breaking Boundaries is a unique rehabilitation centre with the determination to set a new industry benchmark for capacity building and maximising functional neurological recovery.
Our team is driven by pioneering therapists who are experienced in complex neurological and musculoskeletal physiotherapy. We pride ourselves on supporting people throughout their journey, not only during their physiotherapy sessions. It's a place where individuals of all capabilities can train to reach their goals.

Individualised Physiotherapy
We work with every person to create an individualised approach to rehabilitation and plan our therapy to reflect individual goals.
Group Exercise Sessions
Exercises are adaptable for all neurological conditions/abilities and ALL are welcome.
REX Exoskeleton Sessions
The REX exoskeleton is a treatment tool as it allows the user to stand, walk and do standing exercises.
Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy has a huge benefit for people with neurological conditions and can have great benefits for rehabilitation.

Exercise physiology aims to analyse fitness to help improve health/well-being and achieve optimal physical function.

Pip
Head Physiotherapist
Pip is passionate about patient focused therapy. With over 15 years experience in both sports and exercise Physiotherapy as well as spinal cord injuries and other complex neurological disorders, she loves working with individuals on their own goals and helping establish a strong team to support them. Outside of work Pip can be found wrangling her kids and countless animals on her farm.
Emily
Physiotherapist
Emily is one of the favourite therapists here at Breaking Boundaries and it's easy to see why. Don't let her quiet smile fool you, she can assess and identify her client's functional impairments and come up with a treatment plan that is both innovative and intensive. Emily gets great results with her clients.
When Emily's not at work she can often be found enjoying the peace and quiet out rowing, or trying new places to eat to replace all the energy she burns at work.
Connor
Physiotherapist
Connor has joined BB after working at one of the busiest hospitals in Sydney - St Vincent's. Connor is passionate about helping individuals achieve their goals, no matter what those goals may be. He commits himself fully to each and every client, and his physio sessions at BB are exciting to watch as he gets clients to bring the best out of themselves. On weekends Connor likes to take on the cricket or rugby pitch, but he has set himself the goal of completing an ultramarathon this year.
Nicole
Physiotherapist
Nic is the little pocket rocket here at BB. With a degree in Exercise Sports Science AND a Masters in Physiotherapy as well as extensive clinical experience, Nic has her clients working in ways they never thought were possible. Nic discovered her love for working with individuals with a Spinal Cord Injury whilst on university placement at the Prince of Wales and is a master at breaking down complex skills such as vehicle transfers so that clients can work at achieving their goals. She has a passion for improving functional performance in people with neurological disorders and complex musculoskeletal disorders such as multi-traumas. When not at work Nic can be found out on the water sailing with the wind in her hair and with about 1000 layers of waterproof jackets on as she is our resident cold frog and the only person to wear a jumper in the gym in Summer!
Leah
Exercise Therapist/Therapy Assistant
Leah is our super experienced, highly qualified exercise therapist and therapy assistant. Leah has over 6 years of experience working with individuals with Spinal Cord Injuries. Leah completed her bachelor and masters degree is exercise and sport science in the USA and so brings an amazing dynamic to the BB team as the USA approach to rehab is often a lot more about focusing on what you can do post injury, instead of what you can’t. Leah is fantastic at gait retraining and mobility work after paralysis. Leah is an amazing swimmer and her hydrotherapy sessions are phenomenal! Outside of work you can find Leah somewhere on the beach, swimming, running or enjoying the sun!
Helaina
Therapy Assistant
Helaina is one of our therapy assistants who comes in a perfect pair with Fletcher, the therapy dog. Helaina is studying physiotherapy at university and is also a dog trainer, horse riding instructor, horse trainer, gymnastics coach and all around amazing person. Helaina and Fletcher brighten up our day and can get even the most reluctant person keen to exercise.
Helaina originally comes from Georgia, USA, so don't get in an argument with her about USA politics!

Physiotherapist
Emily has a fun and innovative approach to therapy and achieving client's goals. She is a firm believer that any person of any age can create meaningful improvements in their function with the right input and motivation from their physiotherapist. She has experience working with people who have spinal cord injuries, neurodegenerative conditions and complex acquired brain injuries. Emily enjoys seeing a variety of complex presentations in both the Breaking Boundaries specialised gym and in the community.
Emily has a special interest in treating people who have Functional Neurological Disorder and vestibular conditions. As well as being involved in new graduate physiotherapist development, she is trained in the use of the REX exoskeleton and has completed the Noigroup's 'Explain Pain' Course.
In her spare time she enjoys rowing up and down Newcastle's waterways, travelling and finding new places to eat.

Connor has joined BB after working at one of the busiest hospitals in Sydney - St Vincent's. Connor is passionate about helping individuals achieve their goals, no matter what those goals may be. On weekends Connor likes to take on the cricket or rugby pitch, but he has set himself the goal of completing a 100km ultramarathon this year.
Breanna
Physiotherapist
Bree completed a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science in 2018 from Charles Sturt University and went on with further education and completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2022 from Charles Sturt University. In the past 12 months of being a physiotherapist she has worked with a variety of conditions from chronic pain, sports injuries and neurological conditions. Bree is passionate about helping people achieve their rehabilitation goals with an evidence-based physiotherapy approach with a combination of hands on and exercise based treatments. Outside of work after relocating from the Central West NSW, Bree enjoys being active by participating in running, crossfit and enjoying the new coastal lifestyle.
Dominique
Physiotherapist
Dominique graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2020 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. She enjoyed her opportunity to work at Liverpool hospital, Sydney, with a keen interest in orthopaedic trauma and neurological conditions.
Dominique has a passion for rehabilitation and making a difference to her patients lives. Currently Dominique is working only Mondays at BB, and the rest of the week at a local private hospital on the rehabilitation ward.
Sam
Physiotherapist
Sam graduated from the University of Newcastle in early 2023, and has grown up in Newcastle, where you will often see him at the beach enjoying the surf or a swim. He has a keen interest in all musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, and enjoys working closely with clients to achieve their goals and to allow them to participate more actively in their community or daily activities. This year Sam’s goals are to take on new clients with a range of mild to complex conditions, and broaden his clinical skills, under the guidance of our experienced team of Physiotherapists.
Sam enjoys running around the coastal regions of Newcastle and training martial arts, where he has had a handful of amateur boxing fights under local promotions.
Tamara
Physiotherapist
Tamara is one of our energetic Physiotherapists here at Breaking Boundaries, having completed a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science in 2019 and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Macquarie University, graduating in 2023.
Tamara has a keen interest in a range of neurological conditions and enjoys helping her clients reach their desired goals whilst also ensuring a laugh is had throughout their session.
Abbey
Exercise Physiologist
Abbey is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with over 9 years experience working with neurological populations. Abbey graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2014 with a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology. She has since worked in a range of exercise therapy settings, including Spinal Cord Injuries Australia, Cerebral Palsy Alliance, and her own Exercise Physiology business. Abbey’s clinical interest is working with spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury and multiple sclerosis populations.
Abbey is passionate about empowering movement, improving function and promoting independence to improve quality of life for her clients. Abbey is driven by exploring a client’s potential through creative and challenging exercise modalities, facilitating opportunities for client to discover what they CAN do. Abbey is also new to the area! So she is keen to learn about cool café and pub recommendations in town, and the best dog friendly parks for her three golden retrievers!
Andreea
Therapy Assistant
Andreea is currently completing her Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Newcastle. Andreea has completed her Sports Training course and has worked with both NPL soccer and netball teams on weekends.
Andreea is passionate about encouraging everyone to get involved in exercise, with a particular interest in functional activity and working with clients to improve mobility.
When she isn't at work or studying, Andreea enjoys training in the gym, doing strength or HIIT sessions and a good coffee.

FINDING US: Enter off George Street. We are the third driveway on the right-hand side after McDonalds. Once in the driveway, we are in the third bay of warehouses - turn right when you get to Greg Tapp printing and you will find our practice opposite their front door. We have parking at our front door and our gym is wheelchair accessible.
